Today's floors are getting higher and higher, which makes us pay more and more attention to the protection of home windows and doors. The child protection devices such as window guardrails is mentioned in the last article. However, we haven't talked about the door and window restrictors in detail.
There are many styles of window limiters/window restrictors available on the market. How practical are they? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
01. Simple understanding of door and window restrictors
The function of the door and window restrictor is simply to limit the opening and closing size or angle of the door and window, so as to prevent hidden dangers and accidents caused by the opening and closing of the door and window fans. At present, the restrictors on the market are usually suitable for casement doors and windows (inward and outward opening).
Firstly, let's introduce the chain limiter/chain restrictor (as shown in the figure below). It is suitable for inner and outer opening windows. The main material of this chain restrictor is stainless steel. It will also be equipped with rubber sleeves and plastics for protection. There are two installation methods: back glue and perforation. The lock body is locked to ensure the window sash will not wobble.
Secondly, it is the position restrictor, which are installed and fixed with screws. Some products are suitable for internal and external opening, and some can only be used for external opening. The position restrictor is using the locking of the support buckle to limit the window opening. And it is concealed in the window sash after installed.
The limiter of sliding doors and windows is generally only the following type. It is installed on the track or window sash through card slots or fasteners, forcing the children to be unable to open, and then parents can also adjust the size of the opening fan according to their own needs.
02. Actual use experience
Regarding the chain limiter, the advantage is that the length of the chain can be used to select the maximum opening angle during installation due to the stainless steel rope pulling the limiter. Therefore, the choice of opening angle is larger. The fly in the ointment is installed on the surface of the window frame and sash, and it will appear outstanding.
The biggest feature of the position window restrictor is that it can be hidden between the window frame and the sash, so that it does not affect the overall appearance of the window. It can also be installed easily and quickly through socket head cap screws. And it is adjustable whether the limit is required. However, this kind of position restrictor has requirements on the window sash and frame gap for installing the window. Usually the most common limiter size on the market are 18mm square grooves and 13.4mm square grooves. These two specifications can basically meet the use of general profiles.
03. Purchase advice
After the practical operation of the above three limiters, Sihai Hardware summarized some suggestions for you:
(1) The most critical point is to try not to choose a back glue (viscose) type window restrictors. The window restrictor is bought for a "small chance of accident" insurance. The back glue type is far less reliable than the screw fixed.
(2) Regarding the installation position, the chain limiter can be installed at the top of the window sash, it will has little influence on the appearance.
(3) When installing the position limiter, it is necessary to take careful not to block the drain hole.
Finally, the safetywindow restrictor has two ways: full-angle opening and limit opening. When the limit is opened, it has the functions of ventilation and safety protection, and also effectively prevents children from climbing out of the window.
